Karim Benzema earned a draw for Real Madrid against Valencia in La Liga last weekend and thus drew level with Lionel Messi at the top of the league’s goalscorer rankings this season.
The French striker netted his 12th goal of the season and will now face Messi’s Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.
Benzema has now scored as many as 16 goals in 20 matches in all competitions this season but even his best could not be enough to end up beating Messi by the time we reach the end of the season.
1⃣ Barcelona – 35
2⃣ Real Madrid – 35
⚽️ Lionel Messi – 12

Meanwhile, Barcelona took a point’s lead over Real Madrid in the Spanish title race on Saturday afternoon, following their draw 2-2 at Real Sociedad but Los Blancos too drew 1-1 and the two eternal rivals are locked on same number of points at the top of La Liga’s table.
Real Madrid barely managed to scrape a point off Valencia at the Mestalla last night as a 95th-minute equaliser from Karim Benzema gave the visitors a point.
Valencia had opened the scoring after Carlos Soler found himself unmarked near the 6-yard box and smashed the ball into the net. Right at the very end, however, Benzema canceled the goal out as here are the three things that we learned from this match.
